Thoroughly Confused: Which Way to Go?

One of the most important ranking factors right now is making sure that your site is mobile friendly. Google has started rolling out their mobile-first index sooner than anticipated. So it's crucial that sites take action on this if they haven't done already. There's also some interesting...

Will the SSL Deadline by Google in October Really Be A Factor in Rankings?

^^^ Good stuff! Just make sure all resources are also served securely. Several browsers give mixed content warnings when they contain non-secure active content such as scripts, etc. and it also poses a security risk for your users.

Will the SSL Deadline by Google in October Really Be A Factor in Rankings?

James, spot on. I've done a few migrations both small and large. It's never as straightforward as it seems. I'd think about working with a technical SEO type (ahem) for these types of situations. A site audit both before and after is essential to make sure nothing falls through the cracks. As...

Will the SSL Deadline by Google in October Really Be A Factor in Rankings?

Yes, 301 redirects will need to be implemented as well as canonicals. Google prefers server side redirects. Note that all resources including scripts, images, etc. should also be served via HTTPS or you will get "mixed content".

Canonical disaster - How do you treat pagination? [Opinions]

Size matters ;-) Seriously though: yes, you are right, James. Crawl budget may not matter much if at all on smaller sites.

Canonical disaster - How do you treat pagination? [Opinions]

Good case studies, James. The problem I have with using noindex as a rule of thumb is that those pages still will be crawled. Crawling a large number of "dead weight" pages can create crawl budget issues, especially if they constitute a large proportion of the site. In some cases I would...

Canonical disaster - How do you treat pagination? [Opinions]

Hi Nikos, I'm not sure I quite understand the issue. You say you want those pages to be "eliminated". Can you explain what you mean by this? Is the content on those pages elsewhere on the site or are you consolidating it somewhere? Best, Linda - - - - - - - - Linda J. Ferguson Technical...

What to Charge for a Local SEO Audit

Local SEO audits don't differ that much from a "regular" site audit. You'd still be reviewing the site for indexing and other technical issues, content quality, links, social, etc. but you would view the site from a local angle to include citations, reviews, GMB and Bing Places, etc. For me...

What to Charge for a Local SEO Audit

Re: what to charge for a local SEO audit? No question about it - technical SEO audits take a considerable amount of time, no matter the vertical, the scope, or the size of the site (unless of course the site is an SPA or very small). I agree with Lindsay Wassell who posted that it takes her at...

I'm glad to hear packages work for some, but I never figured out how to structure a package plan. Each client's needs are so different.
