Since Moz and Semrush cannot tell if a link has been disavowed through the Google Disavow tool, what good are those tools for sites that had previous bad seo campaigns ?
We pull the links from those (and other sources) and then download the disavow list from Google, dump it all into excel and then compare which are still legit active.
At that point, we then prune through and request removal of additional spammy links, or add to the disavow tool as necessary.
Just taking the link count at face value definitely doesn't work.
@jimfranco if you have not delt with disavow before I would recommend using cognitiveSEO's tool. It could make the process easier, basically pointing out the links for you.
Otherwise you could use majestic and pay attention to the citation flow and trust flow. If they are low + the site sending links looks shaddy - disavow.
