    Local Pack Suddenly Changed

Well based on your timing I'd say you're seeing the affect of the Pigeon Update which was rolled out to the UK a few months ago. Expect to see some flux in the local pack, or possibly a culling of the 7-pack. Here in the States we've see some 7-packs reduced to 3 or some queries not showing...

Google preferring EMDs for location based service oriented keywords?

If you have a domain that has a good link footprint, meaning not a lot of links or crappy links, then my advice is to build up the domain and use sub-directories for the cities you want to rank for. I?m doing this on a national level for every state in the US with URL structure...

    Sites with Parallax

Parallax sites....I avoid like the plague. They are beautiful but many don't convert traffic very well...at least the ones I've measured. Mostly because of the endless scrolling to find the actual content.

Social Media Makes Up Nearly A Third Of All Referral Traffic

Great data set! 1. This is why we don't use Pinterest - declining user base, and confusing to marketers. (When Coke stops posting - that's a sign!) 2. We do promote on G+ but it doesn't deliver the referrals back. (We do get lot's of pageviews on it - and that's been growing every month) 3...

    Subdomains vs Subdirectories

Subdomains were a great way to spam...way back when. We had "State.domainname.com for every state in the nation and absolutely ruled in the SERPS. Today the discussion shouldn't be about what juice flows to where or anything about gaming G. Instead think overall branding and pushing the main...

Dedicated Local IP? - Does IP make any differences in ranking?

On an old domain that I used to manage we had a local dedicated host specific to our location, after a few years we went to shared host outside of our location. Didn't seem to matter at all to rankings.

Wrong city local results for SF Personal Injury searches

Seeing this too, not logged in and incognito. Also note the the 7-pack is very top of page, not 3 PPC ads. BUT when I search for san francisco dui lawyer, I get 2 organics at the top, then 7 pack, and more organics...all SF businesses.

How To Get Google To Show Your Social Accounts In The Knowledge Graph

Keep in mind that it will take Google some time to revisit your page, it's not going to show up right after coding. As for the / thing, just depends on how you want the markup to display. Lastly use the Google Structured data tool to debug any issues. Google Structured Data Testing Tool...

    Reporting Private Blog Networks

I wouldn't waste time reporting any PBN's as they have mostly be detuned because of the vast amount of spam that's been going on for so long now. I've always said to myself, do I want to chase ghosts - or spend time making my site the best it can be. My .02 cents.

How To Get Google To Show Your Social Accounts In The Knowledge Graph

What does the group feel about the value of SM icons showing in the Graph? I'm all about schema markup and have recently added "star review" that are now showing in the SERPS which so far has had a marked CTR increase. Many searches that show the Graph actually leads to lower CTR for...

BUSTED! Warning for Attorneys with Regus or Non-compliant Offices

Google doesn't owe a business anything. As you mentioned it's their product and their rules. Also agree that for a law firm it's about ethics, a scam is a scam.

    DMOZ

"Directories of all kinds have been seriously devalued by Google." Not completely, in fact many in certain verticals have seen a large increase in visibility starting when the "flying rat" pooped all over the SERPs. Legal Vertical Examples include: AVVO, lawyers.findlaw, thumbtack, Nolo, Yelp...
