Around 75% of our clients saw sudden, pretty drastic changes in "blue links" rankings starting either on the 26th or 27th. Most of the changes were increases, so I'm not complaining! But I'm curious whether anyone else saw something similar?
To be clear, I'm not talking about local pack rankings.
Out of curiosity - is the listing linking directly to his home page, or to a different landing page? That could theoretically make a difference to how important the home page is.
Apologies if this is a stupid question - I've looked around for an answer, but haven't found anything clearly one way or the other.
On the one hand, it seems that the point of the redressal form was so that spammers can't threaten spam fighters with retribution.
On the other hand, I've heard...
Hi Jason!
Thanks for taking the time to make that clarification - my bad for not reading carefully enough!
A month long algorithm update does seem quite odd to me. I'm curious, do you know anyone who keeps track of how long updates/roll-outs typically take? Or has Google given any official...
I can't say I'm seeing that precise pattern - and even in the "Swapasaurus" article, his second example doesn't quite match that pattern either.
However, I really wonder if he's on the right track about this being the new normal, rather than a long algorithm update. Algorithms don't usually...
This might help: Here’s a script to bulk submit URLs to Google’s Indexing API
Though be aware, I haven't tried this method before & it may not still work.
That's the idea. The goal is for Google to see that the http version is 301ing to the https version - which should hopefully make the big G change it's mind about which one is canonical!
I'm not sure about doing it in a batch - I've only ever done it individually before.
That was my thought as well. @Wirenut , do you have the http URL prefix property verified in GSC as well? If so, you could inspect the http versions of the URLs, and submit them for reindexing. At least it might give you more information about what's going on!
Just putting them in the sitemap doesn't necessarily make them canonical.
I'd recommend inspecting the URLs within Search Console (using the "Inspect any URL" tool at the top of the page). Then look under Coverage > Indexing and you should get an answer on which URLs Google thinks are...
I don't know. I've been crunching some numbers this morning for different clients, with varying results. In some cases, it seems clear that proximity became a lot less important:
But I'm not seeing the same pattern for all clients:
I guess when it comes to algorithm updates, 'The truth is...
