Google Confirms a Bug Preventing New Content from Being Indexed

Google is experiencing a major issue at the moment which is preventing new content from being indexed in search results.

The bug was spotted earlier this morning, and is especially evident when using the ‘Past hour’ search filter.



Google has now confirmed it’s experiencing indexing issues and provide more information when it’s available.

Here’s Google’s statement:
“We’re currently experiencing indexing issues that may cause stale search results in some cases. We’ll update this thread when we can provide more information.”

UPDATE

Google's indexing issue is now resolved - new content being indexed

Google posted on Twitter earlier this morning that the issue is resolved:



What happened. It appears based on what I am hearing from Googlers that the search engine had some sort of issue getting new content into their index. So either Google had a crawling issue where they weren’t able to crawl new content, or more likely Google was crawling new content but was not able to fully index and process that new content due to some sort of bug or backlog.

If you posted a new piece of content yesterday, Google would have taken several hours to index that content. Now, Google is back to indexing new content, especially on sites that update often, like news sites, within minutes.

NEW Google Indexing Issue Ongoing Friday May 24

Late Thursday May 23, 2019, Google’s Webmasters Twitter account tweeted that Google is suffering a new indexing problem that is completely separate from the previous day’s indexing issue.

Here is the text of the tweet:
We’re looking into a new indexing issue that started escalating 6 hours ago. The issue is unrelated to yesterday’s outage and we’re working hard to resolve it. We’ll update this thread when we can provide more information.
