3 signs your SEO campaign is failing

The case study was mine. You can find it here: [Experiment] Changed Post Dates, Blog Traffic Up 45% I would have posted a link there but those moderators on the Stack network make it impossible unless you've posted a bunch so I ended up copying the entire case study there.

Awesome Local SEO Ranking Tip to Grab #1 Spot

Yeah, or they figure out a way to ignore or penalize the stuff that looks manipulative and count the rest. They already did this with backlinks. ---------- Post Merged at 09:45 PM ---------- Previous Post was at 09:39 PM ---------- You aren't a directory. So no, that wouldn't be expected...

How to Expand My Local Search Business

Coming back to this thread because I completely forgot to mention the tied for #1 thing I've learned (aside from find higher paying clients). We are in the service business first. We do SEO/PPC/design/whatever second. If you've ever seen Hotel Impossible where he visits really high rated...

How to Expand My Local Search Business

I've learned a few major things: 1. Don't go after really low budget clients ($1500/mo or less). They very rarely become high budget clients and there are more than enough high budget clients out there if you know how to market to, sell to, and service them. If you need examples to sell higher...

Social Media Makes Up Nearly A Third Of All Referral Traffic

First of all, this isn't really directed at you. I respect your point of view. I just have a strange compulsion to temper the absolute rabid social media hype that exists out there. This is more toward that hype in general. I've worked on a lot of projects. I'm pretty skilled with lots of...

Social Media Makes Up Nearly A Third Of All Referral Traffic

He almost lost me at "the shift from search to social is here." Anybody who believes that is clueless. Then he said no, he doesn't think that's the case. Ok, so it's an article about how many people use social media. Awesome. Social media will not drive conversions at near the rate of many...

    Domain forwarding

Rich is right on. There are no other issues that I can think of. Just make sure they are using 301s and not domain masking as is often the case.

Moz, SEMrush or Majestic - Pick any two, which do you drop?

Depends on your client needs, reporting, etc, obviously. But for our needs, Moz used to be the least useful for us of the 3. We never used it in the past because we do a good mix of local / non-local / consulting and we tend to build custom reports for each project as needed. Now that they...

    # of Clicks on Your Google+ Page Determines Your Ranking?

This is interesting. Have you seen a trend on type of business this applies to or is it across the board? Also, I have to think interaction, while it may be weighted slightly differently in each case, is all that matters - whether that's smart phone, desktop, tablet, whatever. Have you seen...

Clicks Drive Rank, Citations Not as Important? Local Search Track: #stateofsearch

That's a case study I would love to see ;-)

Clicks Drive Rank, Citations Not as Important? Local Search Track: #stateofsearch

"Click monkeys" may be cheap, but I'd be real surprised if this was being done successfully, consistently, and at a cost less than just taking the "white hat" approach - baring the use of some sort of local botnet.

Clicks Drive Rank, Citations Not as Important? Local Search Track: #stateofsearch

Great info and cool to see you take this idea a step further with some great tests Darren! I agree with Howell that user behavior has been in use for a while - at least since 2013, which is when we first noticed it running our birthday parties page test in November 2013 (which I shared the...

Google shutting down service area business listings

@Margaret, we had a huge issue with this about a year ago so I know that wording has been there at least that long. Like Phil said, I think the purpose of that phrasing is to say you can't create listings for every area you service if you don't actually have a physical office there. We had a...

Yes, I believe it has. I'm going to move that page to a more prominent location at some point soon.
