Is there any negative SEO from having different domains redirecting to one website? For example: The website is mercedes-benz-xyzauto.com, and this is what shows up in the browser address bar. Then you use xyzauto.com on GMB and other directories, and it directs to their website. Will this hurt their SEO or Local SEO efforts?

They have been using the one domain for awhile but the shorter one is easier to remember and looks cleaner because it is shorter. If I suggest they change the GMB to the the direct URL would it also be suggested to make sure all links are the direct URL? Like on Yelp, other directories, anywhere that is displaying NAP?
