Applied for Business Profile API access a few days ago and hit something that cost me a fair bit of time. Posting in case it saves someone else.
When you fill in the application it asks you to pick the business profile you're applying under. In my case the business has two listings, the real verified one and a duplicate unverified one that's been floating around for years. The form grabbed the duplicate on its own. I didn't pick it.
It then failed the eligibility check, because the duplicate obviously isn't verified and isn't 60 days old. The error doesn't tell you that's what happened. It just says you're not eligible.
Fix was to go back and specifically select the verified listing instead of letting it choose. Went through fine after that.
Other thing worth knowing, the application wants an email on a matching domain. A gmail address is apparently one of the most common rejection reasons, so I set up forwarding on my own domain before applying.
Still pending on my end so I can't tell you what approval looks like yet. But if you've got a duplicate hanging around, check which one the form picked before you submit.
