I have owned Steri Sweep Housewashing and Power Washing (and the website SteriSweep.com) for about 2 years. I hate the name. It was initially created as just steri sweep because I was going to do disinfecting. I’m looking for advice on renaming my biz and what that will do to my gmb and seo in general.

I’m in the “Lehigh valley” region of Pennsylvania, which consists of about 7 mid sized towns and many small ones. I want to be know as the go-to pressure washing and house washing company.

I recently bought Lehighvalleypressurewashing.com because I figured I should change the name to something simple: the location + the service I do. I am planning on working with someone who can successfully do that in googles eyes while keeping my reviews, so I’m good w that

My question is: is that a bad new name? If considered renaming to someone like Precision Exterior Solutions but I started to really lean towards keeping it as the location I want to dominate + the service I provide. Any best practices or suggestions on this?

Not at all. Whatever you go with should try to include some keywords if possible but I don't know much about your industry which is why I was asking what keywords matter.

Ah gotcha. Do you think keywords still matter in terms of the business name and domain name? For ex. My main keywords are PRESSURE WASHING and/or POWER WASHING and my area is the LEHIGH VALLEY therefore I was going just keep it simple and name it Lehigh Valley Power Washing. I think this keeps it simple and is optimized in most ways…. As opposed to something like Precision Power Wash. Am I on the right track?

I am not sure if changing your business name will help you enough in the way that you think it will. I think you could better optimize your website to increase your rankings. These changes could pay off more in the long term than by just changing your business name.

I agree with Joy. Your proposed name sounds like a good choice, but without knowing what keywords people use when searching for your type of business, it may or may not be the best choice. For example, do users currently search for "Lehigh Valley Power Washing" when looking for someone to pressure wash their property? That information will help you best determine which word choices would benefit you most.

As someone who knows nothing about your industry or location, the name you're suggesting makes a lot of sense. If locals prefer to use town/neighborhood/community names over Lehigh Valley, however, it may not be as helpful as it appears at first glance. Have you looked at search volume for your various keywords, or at what keywords currently drive traffic to your site?

It gets 50 monthly searches and power washing Lehigh valley pa gets 40 monthly searches. I don't see how rebranding the business, updating the SOS or getting a DBA and having to update the GBP name and risk a suspension is worth it when he could fix and add that to his meta title and website content. This is a small market and he might see big increases with simple website tweaks instead of having to do a full rebrand.

I hadn't checked the data, was just elaborating on what Joy was saying because OP mentioned their "main keywords" but didn't say if they were chosen as main or if the choice was backed by data.
I agree, site content and quality matter more than the brand name.

A. nothing but love for you @ErinJones and you know we will also be cool. I did take a look at this person's market and website. The meta title for the home page is Home - STERI SWEEP. If they were to update that, it can be a quick win. Lehigh valley is not even mentioned on the website. They are in a niche that I have seen a lot of suspensions happen in. If they change their name, they have a higher likelihood of getting suspended. I think this could hurt him more, especially with reinstatement A. taking 9 days and taking an additional 3 days to rank again.

I would not go with something generic like Lehigh Valley Power Washing. It can make it super difficult for existing customers to find you if you don't have a unique identifier. Something like Steri Sweep Power Washing would be better.

Try to find a name that will evoke an association with your services. Perhaps it will be a play on words, which will consist of the keywords of your slogan. Or you can turn to experts who create selling names for companies. In my opinion, in general, you should always turn to specialists when you can't handle it on your own. For example, I, too, turn to such companies to wash the facade of the building. Maybe some of you, too, will be useful. But the main thing after you develop a new name, hire a PR. This ensures that people who turned to you before know that you have not closed but changed the company's name.

@besibol16 I think that this depends on your overall marketing strategy and your branding strategy. If you have plans to change your name then you should research your competition and your branding value. If SEO is a core part of your business, you should definitely make the change by the way.

You can rename it Lehigh Valley Power Washing depending on your competition research.
