Hi all, Michel here, co-founder at GMBapi. Upfront: this is our tool, so read it with that in mind. I'm posting in Tools & Software because we've just shipped something that changes how Local SEO freelancers can work, and I'd like honest feedback from people who do this every day.
The short version
We rebuilt our Local Rank Tracker, and geo-grid scans are now unlimited and credit-free, free trial included. No credit balance to watch, no per-point or per-keyword math.
For Local SEO freelancers, credits have always been the hidden cost. You scan a client once a month because every re-check eats margin, and you skip prospect scans because you can't bill for them. That trade-off is gone. Monitoring any location (and all of its local competitors) on a weekly or monthly (and single keyword) basis is now 100% free of charge.
The part I think matters more: competitor change tracking
Every scan logs up to 60 competitors per grid point, plus the changes they make to their GBPs between scans (categories, fresh content, review growth). Line that up with ranking movement and you get a few workflows that are hard to do by hand:
You can also scan any GBP, not just connected ones, so you can map a prospect's market before the first call.
Limitations, so nobody's surprised
We can't scan service area businesses right now, and if you're outside the top 60 at a point, there's no rank to compare.
My question for you
For those tracking competitor changes today, manually or with another tool: which GBP changes have you actually seen move rankings, and which turned out to be noise? We're deciding what to log next, and I'd rather build from what you've seen in the field.

- Before and after: you change a primary category or push a batch of posts. Re-scan the next week and compare the two scans directly.
- Cause vs. noise: client drops in the north of town. Check whether a competitor added a category or picked up 30 reviews in the same window, before you start guessing.
- Per-pin testing: click any grid point to see who ranks there, sorted by rank or rank change. Handy for testing neighborhood-specific content.
- Proximity reality check: the competitor map shows where top rankers physically sit, which helps when a client asks why they can't rank 10 miles away.
- Reporting: average rank, visibility (based on estimated CTR), and top-5 share over time.
You can also scan any GBP, not just connected ones, so you can map a prospect's market before the first call.
