Would redirecting an old domain for a former business location in another city hurt local seo?

If a business has two domains, one for City A, and one for City B (that is 3 hours away), but they decide to shutter the site for City B and redirect that URL to the site for City A, would that hurt your ranking for searches in City A? I believe it would, but I just want to get some other opinions.

I have never seen it have a negative impact at all.

Google has gotten better at discrediting spam links over the years. Just make sure that if you 301 redirect the domain, that you don't let it expire.
