Hey all,

My team has been running into this issue quite frequently the past 2 or 3 months where we have a client who is either opening a new business or has relocated their existing business, and there is already a GBP at that address for the business that used to be there.

Here's one example of such a GBP: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ni96jivhih3S1W8g6

Our client has relocated to the 145 E Jackson St. address that this Steve O'Dell Financial is still listed at. This business is no longer here, and it looks like they're actually at 111 E. Jackson St. according to their website. We're hesitating to update our client's address to 145 E Jackson St. though for fear of a suspension.

My main question is this: what is the best course of action for these types of situations? Primarily, we've been trying to use the suggested edit feature to suggest businesses as permanently closed (in the cases where the GBP in question did indeed go out of business), moved to a new address, etc. It's very hit or miss though with some going through and some not, and in those "not" cases, we're kind of stuck. Redressal form doesn't really work, especially in cases where the GBP we're trying to get listed is brand new and not verified yet, and with the suggested edits only sometimes working, I'm just looking for any advice on what other things we can try to get these old and inaccurate GBPs removed/updated/etc. to clear that address for our client to be listed at without risking suspension due to address overlap.

The only time you need to worry about another business at the same address is if they share the same primary category. Google will reject the edit since the profile is active. There is a Google post from a day ago. Streetview hasn't been updated since May 2024.

I would add the new address to the existing GBP. More than likely, Google will require video verification. Make sure the client has permanent signage in place before you add the new address. The listing will remain unverified until you get verified. This means you won't be able to update the hours or reply to reviews while it's unverified. Make sure you update your citations and paperwork before adding the new address, in case it gets suspended.
