Google ads for a service provider with no location pin worth it?

I was debating using Google ads to get my goog maps listing noticed more.
I'm a service provider without a location pin.
I'm hoping I could pay to show up on maps as a small square ad pin if use Google ads...
Correct me if I'm wrong but it won't do this if I have no location pin on maps correct? It will just be in the sidebar of the maps, not on the actual map.

I'm aware I'll show up in the Google search with goog ads but I want a Maps ad. Seems like the physical pin is just so important these days with no workaround for competing.

That is correct. You can't use location extensions/assets if your address is hidden on your GBP.
