Hi we have 15 stores we want to transfer over to our main google places account.

We can only claim them with google places bulk uploader.

So from what i have read, i have to add each store to the spreadsheet then request bulk upload.

Since these google places listings already exist, will the listings i create (via the spreadsheet) simply merge with the old ones?

Or could there be a chance of the creation of duplicate listings (how can you avoid this). And is it necessary to add latitude and longitude points (because you don't have to add them)?

The goal is to add the old listings into a our Google Places account, and can only use the bulk uploader.

Thanks,
George

Hi George,

Sorry I don't deal with bulk upload at all but help folks with Qs about it so may be able to point you in the right direction.

Just need to clarify something. When you say "these google places listings already exist"...

Do you mean you never claimed them in another dashboard, they are just live listings Google created? OR do you mean they were claimed/verified already in some other account?

Hi Linda, they are claimed and verified by someone else.

Should not dual claim. It's a violation and can cause a myriad of problems. In fact with the new dashboard that's rolling out you won't be able to re-claim listings as you could before. Will have to get support involved.

So can you tell me more about the situation? Did the client claim previously and now you want to claim in your account to do the bulk upload? Or did a previous marketing company claim and won't give you access? Or???

Its a mix some of the listings we want to claim are either - created by yellow pages, or the dealer created them and are unable to delete the listings (lost access, usernames, passwords, etc)

That was going to be my next question - if they could delete from their account.

I guess only option is to try to do bulk upload. Then contact support to try to get the other accounts unverified. If other accounts have not made edits for a long time it may be a little easier. But either way support will need you to prove you are the rightful owner or authorized by the owner to manage the listings.

Hi George,

Welcome to my life. I deal with businesses with hundreds of locations that I need to setup/claim. I have just recently spent a great deal of time researching this and talked to Google 3 times over the phone.

Your best option is to claim them under a new account one by one. Yes, that option sucks.

You can try the bulk upload spreadsheet (which is very glitchy) and you will most certainly get some duplicates. This option is still way easier to deal with, you just have to be ready to delete the duplicates.

Good luck out there.

Ahhh Jason, so glad you weighed in. I know you have lots of experience with this and that experience is golden! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Jason,

Thanks for this.

Do you have any tips or suggestions on ways to improve the odds of avoiding duplicate listings (for bulk upload)

For instance, ensuring latitude and longitude points are pretty much identical with the current listings when claiming.

Or am i better off not including latitude and longitude points for each listing, so Google merges based just on the address.

What if the listings are already in the Google Dashboard?

I have a client with 25 locations - 5 of which we have been having problems verifying with postcard verification. I contacted Google to see if they would help me manually verify the remaining locations and they instructed me to use the bulk upload tool to upload ALL of the locations. While I should have done the bulk upload in the beginning, this suggested route of action gives me a bad feeling since most of the listings are already verified! Any advice?

What you need to do is to delete the listings which are not yet verified from the dashboard. Add the unverified listings to the google bulk upload feed (you need a minimum of 10) Upload them, and they should be added to google dashboard overtime.

Thanks! The issue with that, though, is that I only have five remaining locations left to claim.

I've talked to Google and they say to leave the listings in the dashboard and add ALL of them to my bulk upload spreadsheet and that they would make it work on their end. However, I did not speak with a specialist who deals with the bulk uploads.

How canI do the bulk upload if I only have five listings to add?

Yeah good question. Can you get them individually confirmed? I think that would be your best bet.

Nope, we can't. See my original post.

I'm really stumped on what to do here. And the Google Local specialists I've spoken with don't have much more advice to offer.

You might need to delete 5 from the dashboard, so you have a total of 10. Then upload the feed with 10 listings.
