Search ranking in Europe feels a bit different from what I usually read in US local SEO discussions.

From what I see here, there is:

  • more randomness
  • fewer suspensions
  • much more keyword stuffing in GBP names

In many cases, the biggest ranking drivers seem to be:

  • GBP name
  • categories
  • review recency
  • opening hours

Some people say the randomness comes from website topical authority and other digital assets. That may be true in some cases, but I personally have not seen a clear enough pattern to rely on that explanation.

What really caught my attention is what happened yesterday, 22.03.2026.

All the GBPs I manage - both my own and client's - suddenly got 6–10 new customer interactions each, depending on the market size, but without any increase in profile views.

Right after that, those same GBPs lost around 2–4 positions for the main services/keywords we monitor.

Has anyone seen this before?
Was it a reporting glitch, ranking volatility, or something else?
