I have a few clients with descriptors in their GMB names still and haven't seen any effect on rankings or traffic about a month from their announcement. I also have some auto repair clients that signed on with us recently that are using every category that's relevant because they provide many auto repair services. Per one of the local webinars I left these things alone to see what (if anything) Google would do after this guideline change. Has anyone gotten any enforcement from Google for descriptor/category use?

I haven't personally seen any penalties per se. What I believe Google will do is automatically edit the information in your dashboard instead of giving a penalty. If it's a minor issue anyway.

For blatant spam, Google is definitely penalizing.
