How should you optimise the description in GBM - Should you use links to your sites?

Hi All,
I am wondering if the description text has any impact in rankings and if so if there is any best ways to optimise it as I take it that there is still a correlation between GBM listing appearing and local search results ? . Does anyone know if adding links to your sites main categories could also help ?
