March Core Update – Ranking Fluctuations Discussion

Hi everyone,

Just a quick check are others also experiencing ranking drops or homepage fluctuations recently? I’m noticing that many websites are seeing changes in rankings and visibility.

It would be helpful to know if this is something widespread or specific to certain sites. Please share if you’re seeing similar issues on your end.
Most local businesses in USA are experinceing this ?

I have found the last year of core updates to be pretty dramatic for small businesses, but mostly for organic rankings, not local pack rankings. The early observations I have from the March one so far are mostly positive. 2025 core updates were mostly negative. What industry are you seeing movement in?

If you have ticked all the SEO boxes and aren't trying to game the system ranking shouldn't change much. Except of course there are a load of black hatters looking for short term gain and will use any technique they can to push their site to the top for a few months before the ban hammer falls. They don't care about getting banned, they will have gained enough leads to make the endeavor profitable.

That being said, Google isn't the on;y game in town. There any many channels you can use to promote a business. Near us the local locksmith pays for a billboard and told me it pays for itself many times over. He just needs to change the poster every few months. And of course he wraps his van and always parks it in the store/mall car parks so everyone can see.
