I found today this page about 3rd parties (partners of Google) reaching out to businesses to verify their listing - How Google may reach out to your business for verification - Google My Business Help

Good to know, but for businesses may look like scam calls.

"To get you started with your verification process, you may receive an email or call from one of Google’s business partners.
The third-party company will verify some information and talk to you about Google My Business. They may:

  • Talk to you about the benefits of Google My Business
  • Confirm the name and address of your listed business and help you change it if you’d like
  • Share a code with you to verify your business
The caller won't ask you for a payment or discuss personal information like passwords, financial information, or other confidential topics."
