Rankings Software

A couple of weeks ago Joy posted a video, ""Position 1" Doesn't Exist Anymore..." In the video she recommended checking rankings by looking at multiple ranking reports (a hundred or more).

Does any know of ranking software that does that? I've used BrightLocal, but I don't think we'd be able to get dozens of ranking reports, let alone 100s.

It's really not worth the effort. The chances of any two people seeing the same set of SERPs or even the same map pack are minimal.

Rankoimg is almost a vanity measure. What's more important is how many visitors you convert. If you are getting more calls than you can handle who cares how well you rank.

I get that people don't see the same rankings, but Joy's video said that there are trends. You can know if you are generally showing up or not or if you are improving on average.

I don't think that's vanity. Yes, if you are getting more calls than you can handle who cares, but if you're not and trying to figure out why, then it matters. There are many factors that go into getting a conversion and ranking is an important one. If you're trying to figure out why you aren't getting many calls or why calls decreased, it's helpful to know what needs to be addressed.

We used to use BrightLocal, and we also used to use Ahrefs to track keywords for select cities.

BrightLocal, we would, of course, use the grid, and we may have several searches from different cities, but it's not scalable to 100s at that stage. If you do a grid of 7x7, then that's 49 points of reference... maybe that's what it was inferring?

Google's Search Console really shows better data on how we operate these days, though. It's giving real-world positions on where you were clicked or found within a certain timeframe. But tracking on an individual day basis is a nightmare. Even looking at the 30-day average gets out of hand, as you could be in position 30 for 5 days, then position 1 for 5 days, and it averages that out - so it's not a real number when you're doing in-depth tracking on an isolated basis.

I use Surfshark VPN and guest browsers to do keyword tracking from various places, but it's nothing close to what an actual check from a city or zip can do.

Trends is different and I agree can be useful. But this will tell you very little about actual ranking.

Server stats is where the real magic happens. No filtering, just raw data that ignores any tracking blockers.
