Have you seen or heard about the new Google Local ads at the top of the "Local Finder" and in Google maps? Want to learn more?

Melinda Samson did a detailed post about all the new Adwords changes and how they affect Local Search and the local businesses that want to reach out to wider areas.

Google AdWords: What Local Businesses Need to Know About Recent Updates

Google is rolling out an AdWords update that can give ads for businesses that service a local area more visibility.

This includes ad campaigns for hairdressers, shops, restaurants, dry cleaners, accountants, dentists and anyone else who has a business that services customers at a fixed location, like an office or shop.

And in case you missed it, here is an official help doc from Google confirming the purple icons/ business names and other details about these new ads: Show local search ads on Google Maps - AdWords Help
