Views on google Maps contribs??

I just noticed this puzzling addition to the Google Maps Contribution display:

The views number for deleted profiles (I do a lot of cleanup work) is especially puzzling...

Nice find! I imagine the views refer to the number of people that saw the pending edit...?

Quite likely, but that seems such a baffling UI choice

Occasionally I get emails letting me know how many views one of my accepted suggested edits has had. I hadn't noticed them posted like this before. Thanks for sharing.
