Hi - a small client has 2 businesses at same address (construction and painting). We need to update the construction number to his cell - can we use the same cell number as the he uses for painting since the business names are different? thx

Hi Marc,

Using the same phone number for two G+ Local listings, especially if they are at the same location sets you up for the very likely possibility that these listings will merge together.

Also, Google states "Do not create more than one listing for each business location",

If these businesses are in any way related, you need to only have one listing.

Are you asking if he can update it in the real world? Or are you asking if you can update it on his G+ Local page? Could not really tell from the question.

If you are asking about the G+ L page then it's a bit of a moot point because he can't have 2 G+ L pages, one for each business. He only qualifies to have one page. If he has 2 he is likely to get suspended or have them merged or both deleted for violating guidelines.

Aside from that even IF he could have 2 G+ L pages, for instance if they were different locations, you should not use the same number or Google will often merge the pages.

Additionally best not to list cell if they have a local business line as that's the number that would normally have all their citations.

(Oops, edited to add: Colan we posted at same time so didn't see your post.)

thx you two --- appreciate it - need to revise constr web site number to match g places...

Marc did you understand the part about only one Place page allowed? Or did we misread and they only have one?

Linda - the const has a claimed g places and 4 reviews with right number -- the painter (not our client) is unclaimed with another number - we need to change the number on the site to match the claimed g places --- both biz have same address

OK I'm confused.

In original post you said "a small client has 2 businesses at same address" making it sound like it was ONE client with 2 different businesses.

Then you said "can we use the same cell number as he uses for painting"

Now you say painter is not your client. If diff businesses why on earth would the construction company want to use the painting company's cell?

Linda - let me clarify a bit further -- it is 1 client with 2 bizs; we don't work with the painting company (he runs the painting thru const at this time) - the reason I asked about using the same number was for economy and since both bizs were using the same addresses (the NAP issue).

Are you really looking for the answer or trying to get someone to say what you want to hear?
