Hi!

We are currently having an issue where we are receiving a notification from Apple Maps that our client's phone number looks off/wrong (which it is) and it is preventing verification. However, when we try to update it, we get a message that we have to be verified in order to update the number. It's really quite a conundrum. We have tried to contact Apple Maps Support, but all they have essentially said is the above - that we have to be verified in order to update the number, but we can't update it because it's not accurate.

Has anyone else encountered this? Any potential solutions?

Thank you!

Hi @natalie23! You may want to check this recent similar/related thread: Apple listing marked "Permanently Closed" despite being claimed and verified | Local Search

I'd suggest checking the directories/aggregator mentioned to see if you can find third-party info that might show the same incorrect info that Apple is showing. Additionally, you may try submitting edits using Apple Maps (desktop and phone) as a user, and have several people try it. Good luck!

Thank you, we will try that!

Hi,

Can you get the listing verified by uploading the appropriate business documents e.g. phone bill or utility bill and then change the phone number?

Hey,

As others mention your only options are the below
1. Try to update any aggregators that feed Apple with the correct information
2. Suggest an edit from multiple sources with the new number (hit and miss)
3. Claim the listing via the documents route as you can't update a number on a listing unless it's claimed. While this might be a longer process, this would be the best option for the client as this means their listing is currently unclaimed and if they ever need to make future updates they will need to go through this process to claim it before any updates can be done.

Good Luck!

Check the number on Yelp, since they are a primary data supplier for Apple Maps.
