Is there any useful list of sites that you can access backlinks from?

I've noticed that some sites initially give backlinks then they drop off, but I do competitor checks & find they have links with the same place I lost mine.

Would be great if links organically arise but I find you have to keep working to keep steady numbers as sites vanish or cull the links.

Backlinks are less influential than they used to be.

Onsite SEO is far more important. If done well you can rank with very few if any inbound links.

If you do want to do a bit of link building you need to seek out authoritative and trustworthy sites that are relevant to your business. For example, a link from a lifestyle site recommending Reiki from Ginny would be ideal. But these can be difficult to obtain and you may even need to negotiate terms for the links.

Looking at the site in your signature there is much you could do to improve your ranking in the search engines. You need to change direction on the site and focus on the need of the potential customer rather than the story you want to tell. It's not easy so you may want to consider getting local help with SEO.

I agree with fisicx that you need to make sure your onsite SEO is well done and your content is high-quality in a way that people would WANT to link to your site.

Link building does work, but its hard to do right especially at scale. Here are some insights on the importance of indexing for local link building and what types of sites you should look out for when you are trying to improve your business site's backlink profile.

And always ask yourself before requesting a new link: "does this link add value?". Will it help someone looking for your products and services.

Thanks for that, really good advice, I'll change my focus on the onsite SEO
