Hi there!

I’m reaching out about an issue with one of our Google Business Profile listings. We updated the profile in the business dashboard to hide the address and convert it to a Service Area Business (SAB), but the public listing is still showing the address even though the changes were submitted and approved on our end. I’ve opened several support tickets over the past few weeks, but haven’t been able to get a manual review yet.

Has anyone run into this before? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated—thank you!

I have.

In my experience, this has usually been caused by concurrent edits to the address (hiding the address is an edit) and the service area. If one is still pending while the other is changed, you can end up in this weird in-between state. I have not run into it in quite a while, but if I remember correctly, you can test for this bug by making service area edits because those edits are systematically rejected on affected profiles.

The only solution we have found was to re-show the address. If you can re-input it exactly as it was initially entered, you have a pretty good chance (about 75%, we found) that it won't even ask for a revalidation. Otherwise, it's just a standard revalidation. Once the address edit has been accepted, you can re-hide it... making damn sure that no service area edits are pending this time, of course!

It's worth nothing that on Google's side, these businesses show as SABs only, so you run no risk of suspension on that basis if you leave the address visible. Unless it's critical to the client that the address must be hidden, I'd consider leaving the GBP alone, since hiding the address does in fact have a significant chance of hurting rankings...

Really appreciate the insight, @JS Girard! The client has been clear that they want the address hidden, so I’ll move forward with that approach and fingers crossed it doesn’t prompt a re-verification. I completely understand your point—it’s just that they don’t want to be associated with that address anymore. Thanks again!
