I have a Tree Service client who came to me with an existing GBP that used his home address. He wanted to start doing local ads, so, fearing a loss of ranking or suspension if I changed it, I left the address alone. Now, 2 years later, the client is getting a divorce and has moved from the listed home address (where his wife and child live). Now, I have to change the address, and switch him to an SAB, which I fear will trigger a suspension. He has a "shop" where he keeps his equipment, but he doesn't get mail there. He has moved to another house, but I don't know if that's permanent or not. I recommended he get his DBA or LLC, insurance, utilities, etc, updated to match the shop address, which is obviously going to be a pain in the neck. Does he need to change the LLC address with the state, or do you think updating the rest of the documentation will be enough? If I call the Local Service Ads support line to change the address there first (before the GBP) will that prevent suspension? Any other recommendations?

Thanks!

First, read this article to understand how to move a service area business (SAB) on Google. It is a bit more complicated than simply adding the address:

I would not worry too much about a suspension if you get all your ducks in a row first. Make sure the address is updated on the website and major citations like social media and the BBB. You should update the website on any publicly accessible database, such as the Secretary of State website. Then, you need to get some signage at the shop in case you need to complete video verification.

In the end, this will be a good thing for map rankings, since storefronts with the address showing rank better than SABs.

Once you verify the address on GBP, contact LSA support to get it updated. Not the other way around.

Thank you so much for the link to that article, will definitely study it. Also, for your suggestions for what to get updated first.

We'll actually be going from a storefront (albeit a home address), to an SAB. If I have the signage and everything updated can i reasonably make a Tree Service a hybrid business?

Ah ok, I misunderstood. Ignore the moving an SAB article I sent lol. You can just update the address as normal in the dashboard and verify to the new location. Yes, you can reasonably make a tree service a hybrid business with the address showing, as long as you have signage and follow the other hybrid-business guidelines. I would 100% do whatever you can to keep the address showing and not become an SAB, as they can hurt rankings.
