Anyone else having issues loading photos into GBP? Trying to add my clients new logo and it is not approved. They are definitely to spec. I noticed Ben Fished said they look to be doing something new with being able to view photos within dashboard so I am not sure if that has something to do with it

  1. If your listing is new (less than 2 weeks old) you will be prevented from publishing images.
  2. If your listing has recently been reinstated there is a similar 10-14 day constraint on approving images
  3. Google has a new algo that gives you the message if you use duplicate or copyrighted images. Be sure to remove any duplicate, watermarked or copyrighted images and then wait two days before attempting again.
  4. There is also a bug where images show as rejected but then, but if you wait 24-48 hours, they actually publish.
If it isn't one of the above issues, share the images and a screenshot of the rejections so we can assess the situation further.

Is it a new GBP? New GBPs (less than a few months old, I'm not clear what the cut off is) have a minimum delay of 24-72h before the pictures show for White a while. Google doesn't warn about this. Ignore any red "not approved" text until a few days have elapsed.

For a new GBP, your logo usually shows initially an icon as though it was rejected, but that is false, and it will show after a few minutes to a few hours (caching issues).

The other possible issues that might be at play
  • All photos need to be high quality (not blurry) but not too large
  • Images need to pass their AI SafeSearch evaluation
  • Your listing is being penalized by Google for previously uploading spammy photos

So.. the steps for you to take are:
  1. Wait at least 14 days after you have been verified/reinstated before uploading any images
  2. Don't use images that you have used before. Remove any duplicates
  3. Remove any watermarked/copyrighted images
  4. Make sure that images do not include too much text or text overlays. The image should have less than 10% of the image covered in text and the text should be located along an edge of the image
  5. Make sure that images are of high quality with proper exposure, no blurriness with limited stylistic changes
  6. Be sure the images are less than 1500 pixels on their longest axis, JPG or PNG format and smaller than 5 MB.
  7. Use the Cloud Vision API "Safe Search" Test it feature to determine whether an image is "appropriate".
