Hi all, I could really use some help with a Google Business Profile issue that keeps looping back on me.

I started my web design business in Brooklyn a few years ago and used a coworking space address there for my Google Business Profile. The business is www.beknown.nyc. Since moving back to New Hampshire 2 years ago, I’ve tried several times to update the business address to my current coworking space in NH. Each time I do, the listing is suspended immediately. After submitting an appeal that shows the new address, it eventually gets reinstated, but with the original Brooklyn address still in place.

For more context:
I have a few questions I’d love guidance on:
  1. Is there a better way to get the address to update without triggering a suspension or auto-reversion?
  2. Should I have opened a new GBP location in NH and marked the Brooklyn one as closed instead of just changing the address on the original profile? How would I have gone about doing that?
  3. Would you recommend sticking with the coworking space address if I plan to be there at least another year, or would using a PO Box (or something else) be a safer long-term move? I don't want to use my home address for obvious reasons...
Thanks in advance for any help. I’d really love to clean this up so we can start focusing on local SEO here in NH.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Seth

PO Boxes, virtual addresses, and coworking spaces are generally not eligible.
For coworking spaces, Google requires a private office with visible signage.
Given these constraints, you're likely better off registering as a Service Area Business using your home address.
The address will be hidden from public view, so there are no privacy concerns

I am not sure how you were able to get reinstated. Your paperwork indicates you have a part-time open space. This is not allowed. You need to have an executive office with permanent signage. You have two choices: get an executive office or create a brand new GBP at your home and hide the address. If you attempt to move the address to your home and hide it, you will still rank in Brooklyn as there is no way to move from showing your address to hiding it.

  • If your business rents a physical mailing address but doesn't operate out of that location, also known as a virtual office, that location isn't eligible for a Business Profile.
  • Businesses can't list an office at a co-working space unless that office maintains clear signage, receives customers at the location during business hours, and is staffed during business hours by your business staff.
