For the last few months, there have been lots of posts in the Google Business Profile community forum about GBP verification taking a long time. Some users mention wait times of weeks or even months, which is a whole lot longer than the five days suggested by Google!

There are lots of backlogs with GBP support at the moment but in many cases, this verification problem is a glitch, not a delay. Here's how you can tell: if your Business Profile tells you that Google is processing your verification, but the verification tool reports that the verification is complete, then there's a problem
So, the first step is to check the verification tool. If the tool says that the verification is still processing—so the tool and your profile are reporting the same status—then it's just a delay. You'll have to wait a bit longer.
But if the tool gives you a different status than the NMX and says the profile is verified, while NMX tells you it is not, then there's a glitch.
You'll have to contact support to fix this verification issue.
UPDATE:
This glitch appears to be related to a user session that doesn't get refreshed. That means it's specific to that one Business Profile user. If you add a new user to the profile, they won't see the "verification processing" message! (Yet another example of why the verification status tool is the source of truth for verification-related problems!)
Here are two simple workarounds that often (but not always) clear the old session and get rid of the "5 days" message.
1.) Set an opening date on the profile. Then, wait a few minutes. If that doesn't fix the problem (or if the profile already had an opening date set), move to step 2.
2.) Open https://business.google.com/en-all/business-profile/ and click on the "Sign in" button.
