Google's algorithms are rarely niche specific

I thought that this was interesting. Whenever a big algo change happens, there's often speculation that it's affecting just a certain type of query, like financial queries or e-commerce, etc. But Google stated today that that rarely would happen:

They've also said before that algo changes are almost always global. A lot of people wonder if sometimes when Penguin or Panda update if they hit the US first.
