Hey Cool Cats & Kittens (is this greeting old yet?),

Google & Apple have released their COVID-19 mobility reports. These reports highlight pedestrian movement in local communities:
These reports help local businesses in retail, grocery, hotels, restaurants, ect. gauge how their community traffic is changing with the ever-evolving COVID-19 updates.

Example Insight: States where public sentiment about coronavirus is serious means digital visibility strategies for local businesses are still highly-needed.

Let's look at California, a state highly-impacted by the virus, where overall mobility is down:

Next, a state not highly-impacted by coronavirus cases like South Dakota:

Local businesses in South Dakota are much less likely to need a robust digital strategy to adapt. While these states should still push towards digital out of caution for an upcoming fall resurgence, for the time being, it would appear they are operating about as normal as possible.

Alternatively, markets that are highly-affected, like California, should be aggressively investing in digital marketing visibility. Digital strategies for small businesses impacted by low-mobility in their local market (like California) should be based around customer experience and loyalty:
  • Customer Experience Example-Proper use of new Google My Business features:
    • Implement updated GMB attributes;
    • Use of new "Hours" functionalities in Google My Business (thanks Krystal!).
  • Customer Loyalty Example- Facebook remarketing ads and email.

These are highly relevant to local businesses because of a possible resurgence.

I'm curious to hear everyone else's insights. What do you guys think about the mobility reports?

I think one helpful use for this data would be to use it for running ad campaigns for a company that has locations all over the country.

Helps explain to clients why their listing and web traffic has fallen off a cliff even though they might still be open.

Apple's mobility data - would love to see those insights at a brand level...someday...someday!
