Phone number not local area code

If someone moves their business to a different state and their phone number stays the same as the old location, should they change their phone and all listings to a new local area code number? Does it impact GMB listing if they do not change it to a local area code phone number? Thanks!

Hi Barb. I don't think it has an SEO impact, but it may have an impact on conversions. People are more likely to call a number when they recognize the area code, and may be suspicious of a phone number from out of state.
