I work for a legal firm that has one location but serves clients all over the state. Our focus is the city we are in and the southern are of the state within 30 minutes of our location. The main question I have is; On my landing page near the end of the page I currently have a list that says "Southern [State] Law Firm Serving" and then a list starting with the city we are in followed by the towns and cities we serve within that Southern state area. Does this seem helpful or harmful? I have heard Google cares more about the city you are actually located in. Most of my target keyword phrases are focused around "Attorney near me" "Attorney in [city]" "Lawyers in [City]" "Family Law Attorney [city]" and so on. I also have Attorney in [city] as an H1 at the beginning of the landing page. Open to input and suggestions.

I'm still pretty new to SEO and love having a place to bounce my questions off of.

TIA,
Mike (AKA) Foureyes

Having a list of the towns that you want to come up in doesn’t do too much in itself. But if each one of those towns in the list is a link to a landing page with unique content about your services in that town, then that will help.

Unique content about the legal services that you offer as well as some content about the town itself, reviews from people who live in that town, maybe the location of the courthouse, etc.

Got it. So not detrimental to have, just not affective without links to unique town/city specific content.

Just realized I had forgotten to say Thank you so much!

Location pages can work if they add value.

This means giving the bio, picture and contact details of the lawyers in that location. Get some links from local directories and other websites. Have a GBP for the office in that location. Post some case studies from clients in that location (anonymised of course).

In other words, provide evidence to Google that you actually operate in that location.

The OP said he has one location so he doesn’t have a physical office in all the different towns he wants to advertise to.

Town based landing pages could work without a physical location in that town and a separate Google business profile.

They might but they usually don't. Google is looking for evidence that the business operates in a location. Just adding a location page even with some local info won't cut it anymore.

If you are targeting 'Attorney near me' and similar then Google is going to serve local results. This means having an address 'near me'.

Also worth noting that 'Attorney near me' it less useful than 'divorce attorney near me'. In the same way they would search for 'Ford dealer near me' rather than 'car dealer near me'. The more targeted the search the higher the chances of conversion.

And 'near me' is more about Google maps (and GBP) than organic ranking.
