Hi, we have several party entertainment websites that service the whole country. We send entertainers to bachelorette, bachelor and birthday parties. We had about 2500 pages for each website. When we hired our new SEO in late April, we told him we thought we should prune about 75% of those pages and rewrite the content to make it about 70% unique.
He thought it was risky to prune pages and only had us rewrite about 20-40% of the sites. The traffic is about half of what it was when we started with him. It is about 20% of what it was about a year ago.

We have had horrible experiences with SEO'S in the past, but this one actually seems to know what he is doing. He's friends with Kyle Roof and puts a ton of effort into learning. He admits he was too conservative and is doing everything to help us rebuild. He is a very hard worker and quick to help us.

We are pruning about 70% of the pages. He thinks that will help quite a bit, but we disagree. It will help our crawl budget, but we know Google wants unique content. My husband is a great writer and has devised ways to make the content unique without the AI slop.

We have another site that was a simple five pager that served the whole country. We are building it out into a 400 page site with 80-90% unique content. He says to only make about 2-3 new pages max a day. Also says to not use the same layout on each page. It makes it harder for us to change the layout with DIVI for each page.

We would appreciate any opinions with these questions.

1) How many pages can you rewrite a day? We are changing the duplicate content into unique pages.

2) How many new pages can be built on the 20 year old website that used to just have five pages?

3) Do the page designs really need to be different to satisfy Google?

4) Does pruning 70% of a website that received about 5% of the traffic usually help move the traffic back up?

5) Does changing the content 20%-40% really help or is it too little effort?

Thank you,

Caria

Wow! There is a lot to unpack there.

Without seeing the website isn't not really possible to answer your questions. Updating pages may help but it may also hinder things. It's not the number of pages. You can rank well across a range of keywords with just a few pages if you target niche keywords. Or you can expand your scope with a set of curated posts targeting locations and services.

There is no single answer and I suspect you will need to adopt a range of techniques. Don't do anything for now. Sack your SEO (they are useless) and post the URLs of your site(s) so we can take a look.

This is the main site: https://strippersforyou.com. The other sites do not have the locations setup properly yet, so only the home page is visible without putting in the urls. For the SFY site you can see the content is only about 20% unique at most. It's basically the first two paragraphs that are unique. After that, it's the same duplicate garbage. We both agree we are taking out the city male and city female pages. They are cannibalizing each other. the male and female only represent about 9% of the traffic. The bread and butter keyword is strippers with different variations.

What makes you think the SEO is useless? Our opinions of SEO'S is really low. He is our 13th one in 17 years. None of them understand our business and they all think they do. Plus they make changes without consulting us. We are paying a flat $4,000 a month fee with a bonus structure included that would double that if he gets our business back to where it was about a year ago. We even put an extra 50K bonus in if he can surpass it by about 25%. The drop is depressing because we are by far the best company in our industry. The entertainers love working for us. My husband was an entertainer for 25 years. He spends thousands of hours studying every aspect of the business. We both work seven days a week. We appreciate your help.

Thank you,

Caria

Google can only index words. Which means having the title of the site and your phone number as an image fails at the first hurdle. You then have the words 'call now' followed by 'book now'. The two do not match. Google (and people) won't know what to do.

When I look at your locations pages It tells me nothing about what I get - just a load of waffle. I know what a stripper is. I know what they do. What I don't know is how long the show, if they need a changing room, how to choose the type of dancer, if they take tips and so on.

There are no testimonials, stories from the dancers, pictures (links to SM pages for example) and so much more.

And your booking form needs a lot of work.

And you are using Divi....

And whoever you have used for SEO really doesn't know what they are doing.
