(Just a snippet - Head to Street Fight for all the monthly updates.)

The holiday season is a time to contemplate the year gone by, so let’s take a look at some of the top news stories in local search over the past twelve months. It was a year marked by Foursquare’s dramatic rebranding, Google’s release of a new interface for small businesses and a major algorithm update, and several product upgrades and partnership announcements from the likes of Apple, Yelp, Yahoo, YP, MapQuest, and Bing. Studies released during 2014 emphasized the growth of mobile search and personalization and the importance of listings management. In all, it was a busy year for local.

So head over to Street Fight for a monthly play by play of Local search 2014.

Very comprehensive year in review. Thanks Damian!

Great share! I didn't think too much changed (besides the major updates), but wow looking at this list really changed my mind on that :p

Here's another year in review post that just came out.
This one from BrightLocal with a some pics and more details.

<a href="http://www.brightlocal.com/2014/12/23/year-local-search-look-back-2014/">A Year In Local Search: A Look Back At 2014</a>

Another year has almost come to an end. It?s easy to forget how quickly the local search space can change, even over such a short period of time.

In this yearly review, we want to take a look back at 2014, and the impact it has had on the local search world. We?ll review the biggest changes & updates that have shaken up the industry along the way.

Here's a little different look back at 2014 and forward to 2015:

It's interesting that neither of these articles mention the GMB guidelines update. We've seen clients and competitors that rank mostly due to the use of descriptors.

The 1st one mentioned it, but I'm surprised BrightLocal missed that one.

Good catch Michael!
