If you’ve ever had to “delete” a Business Profile, you’ve learned that there is actually no delete option. More importantly, you might have also discovered (unhappily) that all a Business Profile owner can do is “remove” 1) you and your team (i.e. all users) from the profile, and 2) the content you and your team have added.

The worst part: you might leave behind an unclaimed and unverified business profile that is still visible in the search results, and that can still collect reviews.

While you can’t choose whether or not the profile will remain on Google, you can tell what the outcome will be before you make the final click. So, at the very least, you can figure out what Google is going to do with the profile; you get to decide how you’d like to handle it.

If the profile is going to remain on Google, there is a small warning message.

1 - WILL stay.webp

If Google doesn’t display that message, the profile will be removed from Google Search and Maps. From a practical perspective, you can delete it.

2 - Will NOT stay.webp

So, if you see the warning message, you can't delete the profile. You might be better off remaining in control of the profile and marking it as closed.

Is the thumb rule that it's MUCH easier to delete an unclaimed profile via suggestions still applicable to the cases where the message was shown?

If that message is shown, the listing will remain visible, unclaimed, on Maps after you remove the Business Profile from your Business Profile Manager.

Then you can try to remove it from Maps using "Suggest an edit".

I see the two working together.
