Hi everyone

We are seeing a huge increase in name updates on GBP for various clients. And its super weird---to a point where some are being updated with mispellings of the name (some coming in as updates are missing a letter). These are all different clients in different GBP dashboards so it is NOT a dashboard issue

Just curious as I find it very strange and dont believe its competitors doing edits

@sarmcl - I wouldn't say I'm seeing a rise in name updates, I'm seeing a steady stream of them. (At least a few every day.)

If the edits have misspellings, Google is likely finding that misspelling online somewhere. You should look for it using an exact match search with quotation marks. If you find it and correct it, you will at least stop Google from making that bad edit again!

Thank you Stefan. Tried that but nothing. Now one thing is this started happening after the client started an LSA program with us. Could that have any bearing here? I am just trying to think of everything

I'll disagree with Stefan and say I did notice something going on, but it's nt universal.

For us, there were definitely some waves of name edits (can't date them exactly as there was a lengthy lapse during which no one was assigned to review google edits) in March and/or April that affected an unusually high number of Roofers and HVAC contractors specifically.

What I have not seen is constant back-and-forth over the names. That's usually just one or two clients at any given time.

If the GBP name doesn’t match the LSA, it can tank the performance. I wonder if it’s a competitor doing it.

Its so odd. without giving the clients name its edits like this

Current Correct Name: Bright Commercial Cleaning
GBP Updates to: Right Commercial Cleaning or Bight Commercial Cleaning

Its weird letters missing when the update comes in. You would think if a user did it , they wouldnt remove a letter----would they? lol

I am sure it’s a competitor or their marketing team behind it. If these people spent more time on real SEO instead of the black hat tactics, they’d be in much better shape.
