Hi there, it's been 2 months I'm working on a gmb and we are taking reviews from the old customers ranking goes up. but in the last we take 3 reviews and the ranking drops. why is that? I can't understand it.

Sabir, I don't understand the question. Are you getting real reviews from past clients? What is the total review count? How long has the GBP been in existence? What industry? Are there other factors that we need to know about?

Yes, I'm getting real reviews from past clients. Total review count is 14. The GMB was registered in 2018 ( Mortgage industry ). The GMB is optimised, and I'm posting 3 posts per week.

The top three competitors have ( 20, 58, 40 ) reviews.

@Sabir - I'll leave it to @Joe Burnich to dig into the specifics. I'll just add some important general information.

Rankings are not only about review count. (Or review rating. Or even review velocity.) Yes, reviews are important, but there are many other ranking factors.

Google lumps them into four broad categories in Tips to improve your local ranking on Google:
  • Reviews
  • Relevance
  • Prominence
  • Distance
Local SEOs have identified lots of specific factors, which you can find summarized here:

Another version of these empirically derived variables is found in this well-known survey:
