My client wants to use his surname instead of his first name for his business. Let's say it's currently Mike's Sprocket Repair. He changed the company to Smith Sprocket Repair. His website and local citations have been updated with the new name. If other Google accounts (preferably including a Local Guide) suggest the new name in Google Maps "Suggest An Edit" feature, will the client eventually receive a name change acceptance notification from Google?

Everything else remains the same except for the business phone number. Will this Google Maps feature work for the new number as well?

The business has long-standing in his community. He never did anything with his GBP and changed his number several years ago. The old number is no longer available. He wants to benefit from a properly set up and optimized GBP without risking a suspension or the hassle and headaches of re-verifying his GBP through video (although he would pass video verification).

Anyone can make suggestions. In fact, it can be a convenient way to get around Google's constant reverifications.

The issue, however, is that edits can take a long time to be processed. Some are accepted/rejected almost immediately, others can linger for weeks or months, if they are ever resolved one way or the other at all.

But in and of itself, there is no inherent risk with making suggestions to your own business. In fact i have ran into situations where it was the only way to actually enact a desired change.
