Hi

When auditing citations in the law industry, does it make a difference in regards to ranking in the local three pack to have the keyword "solicitors" or "lawyers" in the business name.

It does for me.

"lawyers in Ottawa"

4014

"solicitors in Ottawa"

4015

Notice the difference in number of results.

It makes sense that this should be the case, given that it should be responding to the search term entered by the searcher (and of course what terms the sites are optimized for).

Also, in Canada at least, I believe that the terms "lawyer" and "solicitor" have slightly different meanings.

What's the Difference between a Lawyer, a Solicitor and a Barrister?

The term Lawyer is a generic term used to describe anyone who is a Licensed Legal Practitioner qualified to give legal advice in one or more areas of law. Put simply, Solicitors and Barristers are both types of Lawyer.

You can add it to the GMB listing but if it's not your actual practice/business name the odds of someone reporting it or google reverting it back to your original law firm name is quite possible unless you do a few things to help prevent it from happening.
