Hey guys!

As you know, link building is without question difficult. Some of the links I get for clients are media-related. I feel like we have a lot of success doing this (examples provided below).

My question for you guys:
  • Do you have any techniques for getting into the local news that you utilize?
  • What types of stories do you try to run?
  • How do you go about reaching out to reporters?
  • Last, any useful articles you have on the topic?

I've had some successful campaigns where we generate content at scale that's national but inherently local (e.g. state-by-state rankings). A lot easier to pitch if you have access to a PR agency. The definition of newsworthy is going to vary by agency. I will say this, a lot of the hyperlocal newspapers are very short on staff/content, so if you can hand them something they can use that's relevant, that tends to stimulate interest.
