A friend of mine runs a B&B and asked me to check his freshly built website to see if it was SEO compliant.
The B&B is based in France and he's targeting a UK and French audience.

To do so, he built content in english and french under the same domain:
https://www.la-besace.fr/

When I run a crawl through screamingfrog only the French content based URLs seem to come up and I am not sure why. Can anyone enlighten me please?

To maximise his business local visibility my recommendation would be to build two different websites (1 FR and 1 .co.uk) , build content in the respective language version sites and do all the link building work in respective country sites.

Do you think this is the best approach or should he stick with his current solution?

Many thanks

Thanks Joy but I am getting conflicting information here. Since the domain reside on a Country code top-level domains (.fr) ... will it not be impossible to target a uk audience even if i use the hreflang option? According to google https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/62399 "...If your site has a country-coded top-level domain (such as .ie or .fr) it is already associated with a geographic region..."
Thankz

Hey Luc,

So the business is based in France so it totally makes sense to have the .fr domain because you're only wanting to target UK visitors if they're looking to travel to France. You don't need to show up when they're searching for something local/close to them in the UK.

What the hreflang code allows you to do is tell Google that a specific page is just the same as another page, but in a different language. This makes it much easier for them to properly rank and organize the site.

Here is a great guide: https://moz.com/learn/seo/hreflang-tag

Moz also has a great post about it here: https://moz.com/blog/hreflang-behaviour-insights

Thank you so much Joy. So helpful as ever and so knowledgeable. I always thought th the ahref lang signal would conflict with a Country code top-level domains (.fr)
