Hi - I have a prospective new client who is an attorney and she has just purchased an existing practice and has been paying a large online marketing firm that specializes in the legal field for a few months.

That marketing firm is Findlaw.

Anyone here familiar with that firm? Anyone here able to offer any insights into their services and results?

Thanks!

In the case of Findlaw, you are paying for their brand name and the "reassurance" that you are dealing with an extremely well known brand.

(Broad brush negative comments & accusations removed by Linda due to legal concerns.)

If you need to speak with someone to help with a strategy in cancelling the contract you can check out Swell Sites (james Eichenberger, a former employee of findlaw) or Mockingbird (Conrad Saam from Avvo)

Tim, I've had a few attorney clients. And just had a conversation with an attorney friend about his negative experience with FindLaw. Everything I know lines up with what Jacob said.

Sorry, I don't want to have to censor, but I had to edit out most of Jacob's post.

We do not allow negative accusations about any company here, due to potential legal concerns.
There are plenty of places you can find feedback about this company, including the 2 links above.

Please do not make unsubstantiated negative claims about a company in our community.

nope, never heard of it, search on reddit and you will get to know about the user comments.

Was unaware of the policy but will be more careful.

As you know reviews are essential for local marketing. Sites that post reviews are explicitly protected by statute. Anyone that posts are responsible for what they write.

Divorce Attorneys I work with have a lot of false and misleading reviews. Taking any action against them is impossible and in most states even threatening to do so can subject you to huge penalties.

Yelp would have been out of business a long time ago if it was possible to take action against reviewers.

My clients over the past 10 years have lost thousands of dollars due to false and misleading reviews. Clients would gladly pay for an attorney to sue, but its nearly impossible to do so even outside the US where there is less protections.

Just important to be clear that unfortunately, the legal route to take off reviews is nearly impossible. Even to file a suit to scare someone, get the name of the user or force them to negotiate is likely to just get the lawyer in trouble with the bar and the judge.

Definitely a good idea to check reviews but don't use it as a lithmus test.

A business with a 80% score might be more customer friendly than one with a 100% score.

Unfortunately people who have a negative experience are far more likely to post. Sometimes the negative experience is beyond their control.

We all know how difficult it is to get customers to leave a review. How often do we leave a review for the cleaners? Car rental place? Local Dunkin Donuts?

Its a good idea to search but take it with a grain of salt.

Also note the context of the reviews. Are the complaints substantial? Small billing error with no indication that company refused to correct the issue isnt as substantial. Also sometimes we have a bad day or just slip up and say the wrong thing to a customer.

Medical offices often have issues with insurance. Customers may have United Health, but there are numerous types of united health and each group policy is different depending on what your company negotiates. Customers are often confused what coverage they have and then blame the office if they were expecting insurance to cover it.

Even if the doctors office is extremely thorough and diligent, there can be issues.

Also, sometimes customer is going through a bad day and takes it the wrong way.

As I always suggest, search "brand name + reviews" on Google and you'll find plenty of great information that tells you if the company is good or not.

I highly recommend both these guys who deal with lawyers and here are their write-ups:
