We are going to get an office closer to the center of economic activity in our city. The primary reason for getting the office is because we want to rank higher in important areas of our city. We have an extremely optimized page with the most reviews for the new area we're looking to rank in. We will still have our old address but will shift GMB address over to the new one so we can keep our reviews and rank higher in an area that is strategically more sound. We will be posting signage and staffing the place, the operation will be totally legit on that front.

Has anyone experimented with doing this? Is there any sort of time delay when we make the address change and when rankings catch up to where they should be? Is it a wise move considering we'll be locked in a lease for a year with the new place?

Solution
Without seeing ranking grids or knowing where you are moving from/to it's impossible to say if this is a wise decision. However, usually moving closer to the city centers means better rankings in that city, so in that respect it might be a wise move.

Once Google verifies the new address you can expect to see ranking shifts in a few weeks.
