How to take over third party listings?

Hi, we are trying to claim Google Places listings which were created by a third party services (like the yellow pages)The goal is to claim these listing, and successfully transfer them over to our Google Places account


Do we click on the "Manage this page link" under "Business listings provided by Yellow Pages".

Will this transfer that listing to our Google Places Account (From the third party)?


And we will have control over the listing?

Are you trying to claim duplicate listings that have been created or are these the only G+ Local pages for the business that you are trying to claim?

Hi Colan, thanks for the fast reply!

Yes we're trying to claim the google+ page, since the business didn't create one, and it seems yellow pages created it on behave of the business.

So we can add photos via the GP dashboard, change the description, adjust the times, add new categories, etc.

The method you referred to in the OP works.

But I always go to https://accounts.google.com/Service...al/add/businessCenter?hl=en-US&gl=US&hl=en-US

and go through the claim process and it should bring up the listing that you want to claim.

With that said, I haven't tried claiming a listing with the method you mentioned since the new dashboards arrived.

Hi Colan, if you do it the way you have mentioned - using the claim process, claiming the listing into a new account does the listing deactivate from the old account?

Or will the listing be in both accounts.

The process you mentioned sounds better - since it takes out the step of getting the client to deactivate the account which can be a hassle.

No, it will still be claimed in the other account as well. Sorry, my interpretation was that the listings in question were not claimed anywhere and were simply created by Google based on third party data sources.

So, if the listing is claimed in another account, there is no way to TRANSFER it. You can only re-claim it in the new account and have it removed from the former account.

Generally listings that have that label (provided by Yellowpages) are unclaimed so there isn't another owner. In order for YellowPages to have verified your listing, they would've had to do a phone or mail verification with you (the owner) so you would be aware of it. All that label means is that Google scraped your information from Yellowpages and created a listing for you, but YellowPages most likely would not have access to your listing and wouldn't have any control over it.

There is a way I could check to see if it's already owner-verified or not but you'd need to post a link to your G+ Local listing.

Hi Laura, welcome.

I highlighted in red but not sure if that's what you meant. Did you really mean YOUR account as in a master account you'll have for multiple clients? Or did you mean set up new indiv accounts for each client?

Another issue is regarding reclaiming. As Colan said if a listing gets the OLD dashboard, you can re-claim but the other account will still have partial control and it can cause all kinds of knarly problems.

However everything is in the process of switching over right now to the NEW dashboards. With the new accounts it won't LET you RE-claim listings any more, due to the problems. So if they really are already claimed then you have to go to Google support and prove you are the rightful owner/representative that should be in control. You can't just reclaim like you could in the past.

As Joy said, if you share a couple links we can tell you if they are really verified or not.
