For a client, I want to remove their Google Business Profile. It was originally created under their personal name a few years ago, which is also listed in the business registry. However, there has been a Google Business Profile under their official company name for a long time now.

I understand that it’s quite challenging to completely remove a listing from search results and Google Maps. There are a couple of options:
  1. Mark it as "permanently closed", but this still leaves it visible in the results for their address, which is not desirable. Or does it disappear after a few months?
  2. Use the European privacy requests: Local listing removals option.
What is the best action to ensure that the business listing is no longer visible?

Yes, Google typically stops showing the listing after a few weeks, but this shouldn't harm the existing business as the old listing is in a different name.

@Iskander - When you mark a profile as "Permanently closed" it won't show in general searches but it will show up if someone searches for it specifically by name. This is helpful for those users because they are looking for the business and they will learn that it's closed.

I agree with @Jannell Howell - This won't have any impact on the new profile which uses a different name.

One more possibility: Given that the first profile used the business owner's name, it sounds like maybe it was a practitioner profile. If there's only one practitioner at an office, support can merge the practitioner profile into the office profile, which would be a better solution than marking the first profile as closed (if this single practitioner case applies).
