Apparently, Google is hosting a live workshop to show people how to optimize their GBPs on July 31st. I take serious issue with this paragraph: "The best part? You'll complete each of these tasks during the session, so you'll immediately boost your profile's discoverability and content reach. Don't miss out on making your business easier to find and connect with!" These are the same SEO myths we continue to battle, despite being told day after day. Now, Googlers are straight-up lying to people when A. they don't know anything about ranking factors, and B. this will continue pushing the false narrative surrounding Google posts and visibility.
 
This is what Matt Cutts used to do: pretend to be the SEO voice of Google when in reality he just set the hares running. About as helpful as anything Rand Fishkin published (eg: as useful as a chocolate teapot).

Matt Cutts cared; Rand is and will always be about himself. Matt told people to build a brand, and it worked for me.
