There's some strange behaviour with suspended GBPs these days, making it unclear whether the profile is a) suspended/disabled or b) if it needs to be verified.
1.) When a suspended profile gets reinstated, merchants sometimes get an email saying it needs to be verified. But when you try to initiate the verification process, you find that the profile is already live. (I see this frequently.)
This verification email shouldn't be getting sent out. I suspect it's a glitch in the automation that's triggered when certain conditions are met, making it look kind of random.
2.) Merchants are getting emails saying that their appeal was not approved, but that also state, "You may still be able to verify your business by submitting a verification video. We will send you a separate email with further information." Apparently, this separate email shows up sometimes, but doesn't actually provide a verification path because the profile is still suspended. (I haven't seen this myself.)
Maybe this is a new workflow that Google is clumsily rolling out, but it looks more like a bug to me.
3.) There's also a long-standing issue where the Business Profile Manager shows disabled profiles with the status "Verification required" when they actually need to be appealed. (I see this all the time.)
I've mentioned this to Google, but to be fair, it's not critical, and I don't expect to see a change anytime soon.
Here's the point: Not sure if a profile is suspended/disabled or unverified? Check the verification status tool. https://support.google.com/business/workflow/12825603 In fact, I think of it as the "GBP status tool". It appears to be the most reliable status checker. For now.
