Hi all -- I have a multi-location client in the HVAC space who's having a nightmare issue with GBP verifications and suspensions. Hoping someone here can help figure out what's going wrong...

The client has eight physical locations, three of which have verified and active GBPs that were created prior to 2025. In the past two months, the client has tried to verify three additional locations. Each time they submit a location for verification, the profile is suspended for "deceptive content." The client is using the exact same video verification process they used to verify GBPs previously, including two GBPs that were verified in summer 2024, and they are following the exact same format for business information.

The client's existing GBPs (which are not suspended) have names that do not exactly match their signage (they follow this format: "[Business Name] of [City] - [Service Category #1], [Service Category #2] and [Service Category #3]"). When they originally tried to verify the new locations, they used the same format for the name as the existing GBPs. We recommended changing the name to exactly match the signage and submitting an appeal / resubmitting the profiles for verification. Even after changing the name to exactly match the signage, their appeals were denied and subsequent attempts at verification failed.

Based on the verification process they are describing and the business information they are submitting on each profiles, we cannot figure out why their profiles are being suspended. Everything appears to follow Google's verification and content guidelines.

The only reasons we can think of that might be triggering this issue are...
  • Phone number - The client uses a single phone number to manage incoming calls for all locations. As such, each location's phone number is identical.
  • Service Area - The client operates physical locations and is verifying their profiles with these locations, but they primarily operate as a service area business.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what might be triggering these suspensions or tips on what next steps the client should take?

The phone numbers are definitely an issue. Each profile needs a unique number - or else they will never get reinstated. The profiles that are verified but share a number are at risk for suspension as well. Get each one a unique number, update all profiles, and try for reinstatement again.

If you already got denied by the tool, you can request additional review of a denied appeal here

Also, since you have addresses showing + signage at each location, you do not need to fill in the service area section - it won't do anything. Make sure none of the profile have overlapping service areas if you do decide to fill that section in. That will also cause a suspension/prevent reinstatement.

Thanks so much, that
